Pre-Opening Activity

Word Play

Word puzzles are a great pastime for boys who are home alone. Try this group adaptation of forming words from random letters.

Materials: A sticker or card with a letter of the alphabet written on it for each attendee. Include as many different letters as possible, depending on your group size. Extra cards with vowels and the letter "S." are recommended. Don't use the letters Q, Z, or X.

As participants arrive, attach a card or sticker to their collars or shirts. Have individuals walk around the room and group with other people to form a theme-related word from their letters. As people continue to arrive, an individual may choose to leave one group and join another in order to meet new people and form a different word.
